Henry Kenny calls for local road improvements in light of recent accidents

Following two serious car accidents in Mayo last weekend Councillor Henry Kenny has called on Mayo County Council to implement safety measures at the Prizon Road, Balla adjoining the N60 at a junction at Drimadoon. Cllr Kenny said: “In light of a recent and sad fatal accident, there is a definite need to upgrade and improve safety measures at this junction.” Furthermore, he is calling on the council to improve the road surface at Coyne’s Corner on the Westport Road at Ballymacragh, Castlebar. This is following a number of recent accidents.

Extra seat and retiring councillors line up exciting race

One more seat and three councillors retiring from politics makes the battle for the seven seats in the Castlebar electoral area one of the most interesting races in this year’s local elections. The transfers of Burriscarra, Portroyal and Roslee with their combined population of 1,327 people from the old Ballinrobe area to the Castlebar area has really thrown the race for seats in the county town wide open. There are 12 going to post on June 5 and, with only three sitting councillors going for re-election, there will be at the very least four new faces or maybe three new and one old representing the Castlebar area in the next council.

The body of a 43-year-old milk delivery man was discovered in his home in Currane, near Ballyvary, after midnight on Tuesday following a fire at the house.

FG recognise Paddy Cannon for life-long service to the party

The Fine Gael party recently recognised the life-long service of Paddy Cannon, Westport Road, Castlebar, to the Fine Gael organisation. Mr Cannon was presented with a commemorative Michael Collins photograph to mark the occasion at the recent annual general meeting of the Henry Kenny, Castlebar, Fine Gael Branch. At the meeting, Mr Cannon was also elected to the position of honorary president for the local Fine Gael branch.
